Dangerous blaze for fire crews at Girvan industrial estate
18 JanuaryFire crews were called out to a blaze at Grangestone Industrial Estate in Girvan, with teams from across the area attending what could have been a very dangerous fire.
At around 12.45pm on Tuesday 17th January, crews from Girvan and Maybole were mobilised to a fire in Grangestone Industrial Estate. Within minutes, firefighters arrived on scene to find that the insulation surrounding an 800,000 litre oil tank, which was empty at the time, was alight.
It soon became clear that due to the potential of the fire spreading to a nearby building storing over 2,000 litres of bleach and hydrochloric acid, extra resources were required and further crews were mobilised. On the ground, firefighters donned breathing apparatus and used hose reel jets to tackle the fire and to cool eight nearby oxygen cylinders.
Once the fire was under control, firefighters used thermal imaging cameras to ensure there was no further risk and the incident was brought to a safe end.
