A brief History of Girvan
5 May1668 - Girvan is granted its charter as a burgh of barony.
1789 - The Stumpy Tower is built.
1832 - The Stumpy Tower is used as a tollbooth during Reform riots.
1860 - The arrival of the railway opens Girvan up to holiday-makers.
1874 - The first football team to be called Girvan FC is formed. It only lasts six years.
1888 - The McKechnie Institute is built.
1944 - The current Girvan FC (then called Girvan Amateurs FC) is formed.
1990 - Girvan FC are South of Scotland League Champions
2010 - s1girvan is launched to give locals a place to discuss local issues, place small ads, air their opinions, advertise events and show off pictures and video.

That's the briefest of brief summaries, and hardly covers the most important dates. But this is where you come in. There's lots of interest in local history and lots of local knowledge out there - so why not share it here?
